When Someone Says, “I’m smarter than you!”


I'm Smarter than you!Nobody says to a dog, “I’m smarter than you!”

Why not?

Because they know they are smarter.

Therefore, people only say, “I’m smarter than you!” when they know they are not.

So the next time someone says, “I’m smarter than you!” just smile and thank them for the compliment.

        There’s a variation in Proverbs I believe, or at least Wisdom or Sirach.

      As a rule, I’ve always thought it’s the one asking questions – not the one giving answers.

      Also, if “love” is our standard via the red letters then it stands to reason that the “smartest” (read: most valuable or important) in the room is the one with the most compassion, mercy, and respectfulness.

      Do we value the abilities of our heads more than the ability of our hearts?

      How many Aggies does it take to witness to a Sooner?

      Which northernmost city in the US boasts the highest level of Western culture?

      I am so smart.

    I haven’t played games like that since elementary school. Did you say this piece of advice to your kids? I honestly can’t think of a situation where this has ever come up. I’ve worked with some absolutely brilliant people, and everyone knew who the geniuses were. Everyone respected them because they knew. I have a friend Bill who knows everything. Honestly. He knows everything. He’s 50 and if I am confused about any subject (like Swedish history, physics, or Ancient Iraqi Wheat farming I can call him and he’ll give me a complete dissertation about it. I’m pretty sure he has Asperger’s. I don’t really think he knows he’s smart. When we get together, I just ask him questions all day hoping one of two of the answers I’ll comprehend. :)

      Well…maybe it is just where I work. I hear this comment every day (not necessarily directed toward me). Of course, many of the people I work with have never progressed past an “elementary mindset.”

    Hmmm! No one ever says that to me, so does that mean I’m dumber than all of them?

    OTOH (On the other hand), I know a few people who let me know they’re more Christian than I (based on their “correct” interpretations of certain key Bible passages related to inspiration, inerrancy, women, LGBTs and so on), so what is that saying? This is getting very deep!
