Sunday Smiles

By

Many people paint a fake grin on their face on Sunday when they enter the doors of their local church building. They are dealing with loads of guilt, pain, fear, suffering, and doubt, but the church they attend does not allow them to show any of these things because it’s not “spiritual.”

So here are a few comics from ASBO Jesus to put a real smile on your face today. Enjoy!

Nice to see you

Interestingly, studies have shown that when we express ourselves we have a kind of feedback system; acting like you’re in a good mood can put you in a good mood; so putting on a smile for even just the sake of not ruining everyone else’s good time can actually allow you to share in their happiness. Of course, this is only a band-aid but doesn’t solve what’s causing you pain in the first place, if you don’t have members of this group with whom you feel comfortable sharing and dealing with these hurts then it develops into the more sinister situation you express – where you’re feel forced to wear a mask among these people because you can’t express yourself, and the more you do it the less you feel like they could ever accept the ‘real you’.

That is true. I have heard it is especially true with smiling. They say that if you smile even if you don’t feel happy, you will begin to feel happy, right?

I guess I was just thinking it would be nice for more openness and transparency in some of our churches.
