Ron, I have enjoyed it too. You have a wonderful and loving way of disagreeing. I think we could have some great conversations if we lived nearer each other. Thanks!

Ron, I agree with you that the broader definition of "seeker friendly" is seeking to please a certain type of man. But I also think that "non seeker friendly" are also trying to please a certain type of man.

Also, the "seeker friendly" church leaders argue that the reason they are doing the things they do to reach a certain type of man, is because they are trying to bring glory and honor to God and please Him only.

In my opinion, a 'seeker friendly' church in the broader definition is 'seeking' to please a certain type of man. Or at least cater to him. I just think a certain amount of caution should be used. : ) Friends?

Ron, Well of course, that is the real question if we are talking about the purpose of life. But if we're talking mathematics, that is not the real question. If we are talking engineering, that is not the real question either. The questions are determined by the subject being discussed.

When it comes to the church, everybody thinks they are pleasing God. Everybody. So in the context of the subject being discussed, asking "Who are we trying to bless, God or man?" is an unhelpful and unfruitful question. Who would ever say "man"?

I respectfully disagree with your idea of 'the real question'. I think the 'real question' is... who are we seeking to bless? God or man?

Ron,
I have a different take on most things related to "church." I think that pretty much every church is "seeker friendly" but that each church defines "seeker" a little bit differently.

So the real question is "Which seekers are we catering to?"

Jeremy, I have nothing against choosing a bar for a venue, but beware the 'seeker friendly' thing. If the time of singing is replaced by a mini concert designed to bless the congregation, I think the whole point has been missed, eh?

I think it's a great idea. I heard about something like this about 5 years ago. It was in California I believe. As long as the didn't do traditional church, as in they just replaced WHERE the church was held, I'm all for it. Whether you get together in a living room or a bar, it's all good. Now, it may be hard to justify having church in a strip bar.
