"Maher voices his opinion that modern “Christianity,” with pastors wearing expensive suits and watches, driving fancy cars, and preaching in giant buildings, cannot be what Jesus wanted for His future followers."

Crap! And I spent all that money going to Bible school...for what?!?

The only certainty, my friend, is that the self exists. Everything else may be likely or unlikely to exist, but the self can never be certain.

That said, the people that are likely to exist in what my self sees as a world which is likely to exist may agree on certain statements that they may call truth, but how am I ever to truly know?

I've been watching a lot of Life reruns on the Tivo. :)

Heather,

"Truth" certainly is a broad category. To know truth, one would definitely have to specify what aspect or area of truth they were aiming for.

While I do think there are certain "subjective truths" (depending on how we define truth, of course), I do not think that all truth is subjective. There are certain statements which I believe everybody would agree to as being "true."

For example, one of the most basic truth claims is: "Something exists." We may not all agree on what that something is, or how that something came to be, but I think this is an example of an objective, universally held truth statement.

Anyway, good question...thanks!

How can anybody get at "The Truth"? Wouldn't it be too broad and subjective anyway?
