Having experienced both approaches, I'm glad they're proposing a middle way. We had a home bible study, based upon Precept ministries, so the teaching was directed. The closeness of the group, the familiarity with one another, and the study based upon "meat", all worked together for a great, unforgettable time. We have all lamented the loss as we each moved away. Finding that type of cohesiveness has not happened again, but I'm hopeful.

David,

Ha ha! Ummm,...I guess I messed up on that. I will fix it...

So for those of you who read this later, I edited the post to correct the mistakes David pointed out. Thanks David! (I trust all is well in New Zealand?)

Oh, and yes, Matt Chandler proposed a "middle way" between the two which they are trying to implement at his church. I am not convinced their approach will work in all churches, but I do think that all churches can and should find a way to mix the two approaches. I will talk about this some tomorrow.

Why have you listed point 4 (Great theology) as a con of the Mechanical Linear Discipleship model?

For that matter, why is point 3 (lends itself to engineering types) a con, too? :)

Also, does this discussion assume that a mix of both types is not possible? (or did I just guess what tomorrow's installment is...)
